    Hello everyone

I did some tests to compare the quality:
    - rip DVD to VCD
    - saw some commercial VCDs
    - rip VHS to VCD

I think, noone of the VCD's final results beat the VHS quality. When you see your VCD in full screen mode, some blocks still on the video. And at VHS you don't see that. I think VCD only beats VHS in the question about conserve the videos, because it's digital... but, in the question about the video quality, I think no...

Tell me what do you think

    See you

sorry by my poor english :P

  2. You hav'nt mentioned what encoder and settings you used to make your MPEG, as this can make a huge difference to the quality.

I've captured at VCD format with Huffyuv, 24-bit...
encoded with TMPGEnc adding the most possible noise reductor...

I agree with you hardrock, in a way, a brand new VHs Video of a film is more enjoyable to watch than any VCD i have made, i havn't saw any commercial VCD's so i can comment on that.

VCD looks better in low motion stuff, better colour and sharper, but in anything complicated i'd have to give it to VHS, although cartoons on VCD look nice.

I think VCD can get better color and sharper. But at VHS you get a better look in all round...
