  1. I cannot get DirectShowSource function to work in AviSynth Opening an AVI with AVISource works fine, but when I try DirectShowSource, I get an AviSynth error message in my WMP playback of the AVS: "Unrecognized Exception!" and then it gives me the line number of the DirectShowSource command.

I am using Win98 with DirectX 8.0, AviSynth 1.06. Anyone had this problem? Is there a known bug (and fix)?

I really would like to use ffdshow DirectShow filter...

    Thanks so much,

  2. I tried encoding a movie in TMPGEnc using ffdshow (no, I never got AVISynth to work with it), and the movie came out quite 'stuttery', as if frames had been dropped! This was quite disappointing.

Depending on what you are attempting, you may not need AVISynth at all if you are using ffdshow... ffdshow supports all necessary resize, sharpenings, cropping, anti-noise, and smoothing functions that AVISynth seems to provide, with the added deblock and dering settings for DivX sources.

I'd be curious if you encoded a movie straight with ffdshow (no avisynth) if you'd get the same 'dropped frame' problems....

  3. Hmmm... I have encoded a bunch of DivX AVIs to SVCDs using ffdshow and TMPGEnc with no problems, no stuttering. The AVIs I get are usually PAL (25 fps), and I convert them to NTSC (29.97 fps) in TMPGEnc, and find the resulting video to be very smooth, no jumpiness. The only times I have had stuttering problems is when I have tried to convert 25 fps to 24 fps (with 3:2 pulldown, so it will play at 29.97 fps). Then I get stuttering...
