    Gang,

Please help me. I captured a 704x480 MPEG2 file in real-time using 5000 as the bitrate and audio 48000hz with bitrate at 384. File size was only 12MB (only a minute or so). I then tried opening in TMPGEnc to re-encode as VCD and SVCD just as a test.

TMPGEnc gave me a "unsupported......file not recognized" or something like that. What can I do to open this file and re-encode? Thanks in advance.

  3. What program or device did the catpure? Does any MPEG2 player like a software DVD player recognize the file?

  4. I heard that the file size might be too small...try a bigger file...or it got corrupted when you end your capture too soon...or you may have to download the MPEG2 plugin here on the Tool section so TMPGEnc can read it....or change your direct show plugin priority inside TMPGEnc....like what the previous messages said....use your software Decoder like PowerDVD, WinDVD, ATIDVD and see if they can read them first.

    There are many possibilities

Well WinDVD read and plays it fine. I do have the MPEG2 plug-in installed also. I can actually open the file under the MPEG Tools section of TMPG. It plays fine also in TMPG (Merge & Cut section). It just will not let me re-encode. I used USB Instant DVD made by ADS Technologies. Any other ideas?

  6. hi,

    i know that problem...

tmpgenc doesnt take MPEG2 videos, only MPEG1 and AVI.
so decode the MPEG2 file to AVI with FLASKMPEG or DVD2AVI
    and then re-encode with TMPEGEnc
i heard about a MPEG2 import filter but i wasnt able to find it.
