Twice in the last four months I've encountered a similar problem trying to backup a DVD (it happened with Pete's Dragon and Froce 10 From Navarone). It seems to rip fine and then I run it through DVD2AVI before sending it to TMPGEnc (as per the guides). However, after the encoding process, the video is very 'jerky'. Every few frames it stutters. This can be seen BEFORE the encoding process when I am cutting it with TMPGEnc, so I'm inclined to think it's DVD2AVI. Any idea how to remedy this?
Please respond via email.
Cheers!

seems to me like your using the wrong aspect ratio. (ie- 4:3 or 16:9)
If your DVD is a 16:9 make sure in TMPG you choose 16:9
I may be wrong but give it a try.

Aspect ratio won't affect the jerkiness of the movie. It's possible you're using Force Film when the video is not really FILM. Check one of the guides on when to use Force Film and when not to.
If the Video Type is NTSC (> 5% or so) then you can't really do force film and you either have to deinterlace, or create an interlaced SVCD or DVD.
It's also possible there are multiangles or something like that and that the ripper you're using doesn't handle it properly. You don't say what ripper you're using, but I've never had any problem with SmartRipper.
P.S. This is a forum - email response are not appropriate. -
As i don't know if you used Force Film or any other settings, most jerkiness in a movie is caused by incorrect Field Order used, try encoding 5 min of each and then switching to the other to see if you have any effect.
