I have 13 Ghosts, downloaded avi, and while encoding with Tmpgenc the video froze but the time kept counting. I was all over the vcdhelp site and read a post about checking for errors in the avi. I have found the program vdub mp3 freeze that was mentioned and followed the instructions about checking avi for errors and if errors are found select direct stream for video and audio and save as avi and it would cut out bad frames. Well I did that and it did not work and I was looking for other suggestions. Can anyone please give me some advice?

By the way, I will apologize now if I have missed this topic somewhere else on the site, been reading and reading and I figured it would be faster if I just asked.

You got it wrong, "vdub-mp3-freeze.exe" makes a list on your hard drive of the bad frames. You then need to view that list, see where the bad frames are then delete them (at keyframes). This program is an alternative to the regular vdub and should only be used if the normal Vdub gives problems.

In the new Vdub, you should select Video > Scan video stream for errors
Then like you said Video/Audio streaming SAVE AS

This Vdub will save out another copy without the bad frames.

But if Vdub crashes, then you would use "vdub-mp3-freeze.exe"

Scan for bad frames, then look at the log at c:\badframe.log it lists all the bad frames, you then would use that log to identify which to delete.

    8831 delete these second
    8832
    8833

    10211
    10212 Delete these first

Delete highest first means you dont need to re-scan, and the other frame numbers will be still there

Hey KingJohn, I did try using VDub 1-4-10 and I kept getting that MMX error, so I came across your post about vdub mp3 freeze and this is where I am at now. I loaded avi into freeze and it listed like 40some frames bad. Now I just need to figure out how to delete! Will post if and when I get it done!

Never deleted frames before, will it mess up audio or cause any other problems?

    Thanx for the reply KingJohn

OK here we go, ran the scan, found 72 bad frames, went to edit and selected delete frames, then ran scan again and there were 77 bad frames. Selected delete frames again and ran another scan and still found 77 bad frames but the numbers came down by one and added to the end of the movie. Now running the scan for the fourth time. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong, if I am even doing anything wrong!

Ok, sounds almost right, but when you use the "Go to" and go to the start of the first bad frame, you then need to click the yellow icon (keyframe) back once then mark it, then use "Go To" to go to the end of the first block and again click the keyframe forward once, then mark it. This will delete the bad frames to the nearest keyframe.

Now you can repeat this to remove the rest, Saving another copy using streaming naturally.

Got one more quick question for this topic! Say I have three different sets of bad frames in a movie - for example - 52196 to 52223, 55008 to 55055, and 55859 to 55871, would it be best to do one section at a time say 52196 to 52223 delete and save then reload and rescan or would it be better to delete all three sections of the bad frames at once and then save and rescan?

    Thanx for the help!

I don't see a difference, I save each one personally, just in-case the stupid program crashes just as I'm on the last block . With a bit of luck the next release of Vdub will have fixed the MMX problem.

MPEG-4 V2,3,4 codec is what you need download "Mpeg4 Codec.exe" from Kazaa, it has the unlocked M$ V3, so it can alkso be used to make AVI's instead of ASF

But you might be better of installing the Nimo Codec pack, it has this codec and all the others.

    http://nimo.everwicked.com/ > http://perso.wanadoo.fr/nimo/

By the way, when you delte the frames, you need to delete the highest blocks first, that way those below will still have the same frame numbers, which you can delete without a re-scan or save.
