High Defintion Capture??

Well, I am finally getting High Def. in my area.

I was wondering if this would capture better (or worse!) than other formats. If so, would one capture card work better than another?

I am looking to by the ATI 8500DV once they come out with the component cable in (later this year, I think).

Also.....would a capture card or DVD recorder work the same way as a high def. VCR???
