  1. I just got my Pioneer 104 DVD-RW a couple of days ago and so far have had success backing up one DVD (Bad Boys).

With Bad Boys, I just extracted all the files using DVD Decrypter and used IfoEdit to keep the main movie. The movie was able to fit easily on the DVDRW and plays in PowerDVD. I'm thinking this is easier than I thought.

Next day I get A Beautiful Mind and Musketeer. Easy stops here.

Looks like A Beautiful Mind is too long to just extract the main movie and burn, so I think I'll have to use Rempeg to downsample.

The Musketeer is only 105 minutes so I figure this should be no different than Bad Boys which is 119 minutes. First I copy all the files from the DVD to the HD and try to use IfoEdit. The main movie still came out too big to fit on a DVDR. Are some movies encoded at a higher bitrate than others? Would this explain why one 119 minute movie can fit on a DVDR while a 105 minute movie can't?

I've decided to try and Rempeg The Musketeer, but on my P3 866mhz it's reporting that it'll take 28 hours! Does this time sound right to you guys?

A friend lent me his Matrox RT2500 and I was wondering if this could be used to re-encode the files to fit?

    Thanks for any information

I assume you striped the movie from un unseful stuff first? (extra sound and so)

    www.dvd2dvdr.com might help

  3. Ya, I used Smart Ripper to stream process just the main movie to a m2v and the 5.1 english track. I'm following the guide that's on www.dvd2dvdr.com. Do you know of any other alternatives to rempeg? Are there any guides to using LSX or CCE to re-encode for a DVD compliant stream?
