  1. I just got a Sony 24x10x40x CD-RW, and very often when burning high quality disks (Kodak Gold, Verbatim) I get a "medium speed error" and it will not write the disk. The Kodak Gold is a 24X disk, and it will not even write it at slows speeds as low as 4X or 8X. However, dirt cheap blanks burn just fine. What gives? Why does the Sony love cheap disks and hate high quality disks?

What are the most reliable CD-R's for the Sony writer?

  2. Do you have the CRX-175E? I have this model and get " Power calibration errors" for CDRDAO write attempts with several brands of CD-R. Oddly, have not tried Sony , since these are not discounted / rebated. Fuji works great as does TDK ( if made in Japan). These 2 "face brands" with CDRInfo show manufacturer as Taiyo Yuden. Blue dye appearance. Memorex , Philips and TDk ( made in Taiwan ) all fail. When you find what works, buy to the max of the eligible rebate. I'm sitting on 300 to cover me until next bargain.

  3. Yes, it looks like it like the blue or black dye. I just ordered some Sony disks and will give them a try. I think the Sony disks are also blue or bluegreen.
