  1. I want to send out a VCD, but have people who don't have a DVD player be able to play the audio (or some audio from the disk) on an Audio CD player. Is this possible? How is it done?

I thought I posted this the other day, but I don't see it, so I'm posting it again. If this is a duplication forgive me.

Almost DVD Player Units play VCD (.mpg or . mpeg files) that can be only video or only audio or video+audio file. This file (.mpg or .mpeg) doesn't play in Audio Cd Player Unit, because it only plays .cda file (not video). But almost DVD Player Units also play audio cd (.cda). For only audio (.cda file) you must burn as a AUDIO CD template in your burn software (the burn soft converts your .wav file to .cda file) and you can hear it in a Audio CD Player Unit or DVD Player Unit.
P.S, There are some DVD Player Units that can play .MP3 file (only audio) but this is another issue.
    I hope help you anyway.

You can author a standard VCD containing CD-DA (the same audio thats on regular compact discs) but the audio portion is not guaranteed to play on all audio-only CD players. I'm almost certain they won't play on any CD players made before VCD was invented.

On my standalone audio-only CD player made by Harman Kardon, the player skips directly to the CD-DA portion of my VCD+CD-DA disc. On my "el cheapo" Panasonic portable audio-only CD player, it plays every MPEG video track silently, which is annoying on the latest disk I made that contains 14 MPEG video tracks, and four CD-DA tracks, at the end!

  4. The CD-DA files on a VCD follow the Red Book spec, so they will play on any CD player, old or new. However, older CD players may also attempt to play the VCD tracks, which will probably do a number on your speakers. Newer CD players will either skip over or play silently the data tracks on a VCD disk.
