  1. Hi all!

Got a FATAL problem with SmartRipper (all versions) that I hope you guys can help me with.

It's suddenly started to fail when it tries to load up a DVD (you know, the small window that say things like "attempting to unlock drive" and "loading xxx.vob" etc)

It gets to about halfway through the scan and then stops, freezing my system which I then have to reboot.
I've tried running it with the ASPI turned off (noASPI.bat) but get the same result.

As far as I can tell, the only things I've installed in the last few days are PrimoDVD (v2.0) and SpruceUp (v1.1 build 1106).
Naturally I de-installed these in the hope that it may fix the problem ..... no luck!

    I'm running on Win98se, Athlon 1700XP, 256Mb DDR, Samsung x16x48 DVD-Rom, Geforce 440MX.

Anybody got any clues or have any experience of this kind of failure ..... it's doing my head in!
It was fine a few days ago!!

    Cheers,

My system always crashes with SmartRipper unless I turn off the ASPI layer. There is a batch file with the software (aspi.bat I think). Run that and it will start SmartRipper with no problems.

As Pinnoy pointed out, you often need to "unlock" the drive. You can accomplish this by just playing the disk with any software DVD player and putting it in pause.

  4. Thanks guys!

Yeah but the 'classic' unlock error is not my problem
and like I said, I tried running the noAspi.bat with the same problem.

SmartRipper starts to scan the DVD but only gets around half way through and locks up ...... still got to do some tests but anymore advice would be really appreciated.

    Cheers,
