    Hi,
I'm going to take your advice and use vDub and Tmpge to make my movies. First, How in the h*** do I install VDUB?? I tried to install but I get an error message:
    couldnt read source file "vdremote.dll"

    Please help.

Also, I made a few vcds from vhs movies and they look terrible. What am I doing wrong?? Am I doing it right by capturing as an AVI then converting to MPEG? The VCD looks worse than the VHS..

Please tell me what settings in VDUB I should use after I get the dang thing installed.

    Thanks,
    N

    boogie,

Sorry, I'm not much of a teacher here, and I don't spoon feed
But. . . I'll do my best to help you out here, cause I know how
frustrating it can be - - specially after trying for hours or
    days!

I know I've seen a link here on installation trouble with vdub, I just
can't remember where. I had trouble too, but don't exactly remember how
I manageed to get it working on my PC, then, I had a 2nd time around
w/ trouble installing it on my 2nd pc, but managed to get IT working also.

My next trouble w/ getting it to work with VFAPI and AVIsynth. AVIsynth
was another trouble maker. Don't remember how I managed to get working
on both my pc's, but every so often, AVIsynth, and/or vdub, and/or VFAPI
will crash my 2nd pc, though my first pc here doesn't crash as often, it
does mostly when I try and frameserve using AVIsynth. I try and stay
away from it if possible. And, it's not all that faster than vdub
    anyways.

This is all under Windows 98 (not SE) So, i don't know what other OS
you are using, but if it's not windows 98, I definately can't help you, cause
    I don't know these OS's.

But, at best, I think the only thing I can advise is, install vdub in
a new folder and FIRST, use the AUXsetup.exe app.
    * probably first best to "uninstall handler" via AUXsetup.exe, then
    * re-install the handler and try running vdub again, but this with the
AUXsetup.exe app still up and running. Click the "Run VirtualDub" button.
This might work. Then, after it's running, close vdub, AND AUXsetup.exe,
and then run vdub on it's own.

Frameserving, like I said in my first paragraph, is another headack issue.
I can't remember, but You'll probably have to trial-n-error it till it
    does.

Which Capture Driver do you have installed?
    * vdub requires a VFW driver
    * does NOT work w/ WDM drivers!!
    * but will work (or may) work if you install a "wrapper" handler in the
windows system directory, if you are using WDM drivers w/ your graphics card
and Windows OS system, ie, Win SE/w2k/ME, etc. I think you can find the
"wrapper" handler under the tools section (to your left)
So, depending on your capture card or graphics card, they will install a
WDM driver these days. Most newer card (capture/graphics) only come with
WDM drivers now. No more VFW drivers, cause it was only for Windows 98, but
even for Windows 98, are these card mfr shipping only WDM drivers. If you
don't have one, you have to hunt and peck for one. The only one I can find
for you is Hauppauges. You have to go to their website, and D/L their VFW
driver, but be worned, it usually ONLY works IF you have any of their WinTV
cards installed. And, no, I didn't say that you HAVE to use Hauppauges
driver, but that it worked for me, cause at the time I installed these VFW's
drivers, I had a Hauppauge card in my PC i/o slot.
But, I don't think that the newer OS will support the VFW driver, but it
probably wont hurt for you to try one, IF you can find one. Please note,
I am NOT recommending you practice this, but just sort of sharing w/ you
how I got vdub to work. Buy the way, AVI_IO also works for capturing.
Now, sometimes, vdub wont work in a given system, but AVI_IO will, and vs.versa
So, you'll have to try both. Again, both these apps can be found in the
Tools section of this FORUM - - most likely, they'll be links to the
website that houses these apps/drivers, etc.

I'm sorry I can't really help you much. I can't really remember much.
All I know, is it works, and so, I continue.

Oh, and no kissing my butt.
    Welp, good luck!!

    Thanks for the info.

I'm not much of a computer person (hardware, shareware, software, all sounds the same to me, lol) but I do know enough to get me by. I will leave VDub alone for now (sounds nasty) and try the other program. I do have the AIW card and I think that I read that it does not support VDub. I may just stick to MMC. I just wanted to try different methods since my VCD looks so bad.

By the way, no butt kissing intended
