--author- Sync problem no more a must read!!!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Having problems with kreeping synch getting worse with longer captures ?
Having postedit synchproblems with your DVCII DVD caps ?

Recently a groundbreaking discovery was made - Ian, a friend of our board discovered and mentioned to ajp that a registrysetting was propably wrong - the AMCLK (clockgenerator which locks the audio to the video) was set to free running when it should be set to locked.

Alot of other things were going on at the time - with tateu developing Bugsy and ajp and myself hunting and testing UX files - and none of us really being sure what good it would do and how to meassure it - so we didnt pay much attention to it at the time. Well one day when things were simmered down a bit - a post was made where tateu incidently mentioned a betastage mpg analyser he had been working on that could show the audio pts values of an mpeg. We all tried it and noticed how wrong our dvcII pts values were - doofus came along and gave us a good description of what the pts values ment and how they affected synch especially after editing - when tateu suddenly remembered what Ian had mentioned and got the brillant idea of changing the registryvalue to closed now we had a tool that could actually show us if it made any real difference.

And lo and behold - IT WORKED - after changing the value our ptsvalues suddenly came out with perfect numbers. Even mikepauls dreaded dvd-caps were now insynch after dvd-authoring. After extensive testing I have not yet been able to make a single capture with as much as one wrong pts value. This really works
If you would like to read the post that started it all: http://www.long-distance-longdistance.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic=171...orum=1&start=0

I bet youre all thinking - I wish he would stop rambling and tell us what to do ? well wait no longer - here is what to do

    Open registry
    Search for SAA7114
Expand SAA7114 and look under AudioClockGeneration
Here you will find a reg key named reg03a with the value 9 - open that and change the value to 1.

Thats it folks - happy capturing

A big thanks to everyone that participated in the original post

PS: So far the testing has only positively confirmed this fix for 48khz audio - we are not quite sure yet if it works equally well with 44khz audio - but theres no evidence that it hurts 44khz audio either - so everyone should gain from changing this value. Also remember this fix only fix synchproblems caused by the DVCII itself - not any problems that might come from a bad source - like an old non timebased vhs. This need to be delt with on the sourcelevel. And finally I have altered all the driverinfs on my site to include this fix - so that anyone that installs drivers downloaded from there will automatically get it.

    It works !!!!!

I have been going crazy for 6 weeks, trying everything. I even went out and bought DVD Complete thinking it was my Authoring software.

I wanted to have both the Capture stuff and the Authoring / Burning from the same manufacturer so they couldn't point fingers at each other.

I just got off the phone last night with their Tech Support, who was going to bump my problem up one guru level. I saw this post and said - why not try it?

Dazzle is supposed to get back to me, I wonder if they will suggest this ?

Anyone with a DVC II - this will do it !!

    Thanks for posting this.
