I ran into this problem with 2 different movies I did with DVD2SVCD. The movie is split into 2 discs, the 1st half image file is 796MB, I burned it onto an 80-minute CD-RW and it burned and plays fine. But I burn the exact same image onto an 80-minute CD-R, I dont get any burn errors but when finished the CD-R appears 'blank', ie Windows shows nothing on it and it doesnt play in standalone player. I've tried 2 different brands of CD-R (Imation and TDK) and they both do the same thing. The 2nd half of the movie is about 760MB and burns/plays fine on any media.
Why would this happen? Any suggestions?

I am guessing here, but on the CDR are you "finalizing" the disk to prevent additional writing to it (not multi-session)? I seem to recall that the End of Disk command can be fairly large.
Does anyone else know for sure?
You could try writing to a CDR as a multisession disk and see if that works. -
I had the same problem writing a divx file of >700MB to a cd-r
When i wrote this on a cd-rw it fits but on a cd-r it said that the cd was finalised but nothing could be found on de disc.
A person of Lenco (these cd-rw and cd-r i used), told me that on a CD-rw
the TOC is exclusively prepared so no data can be written in that part
That is not the case for cd-r There the TOC is finalised completely.
This means however that you can store more data on a cd-rw than on a cd-r, and that sound weird.

@ trenchy: that sounds like salesperson BS.
@ DVantrease: what model CD burner are you using?

As far as I have experienced, I tend to use Disc-At-Once (DAO) as a setting. What this does is it creates the TOC info for that CD at the start of the Burn, not at the end. Session-At-Once (SAO) creates the TOC at the end. Difference is that if you run out of space for the TOC when buring using SAO, you can't read the CD because the TOC is not there or is incomplete. DAO on the other hand, because it creates the TOC at the start of the burn, even if it runs out of space on the CD, you can still use / access the rest of the contents right up til the end of the CD, although you may lose the last 1 or 2 seconds of your video / movie.
I hope that all made sense and that I'm on the right track.
PS. 796MB should fit any 700MB / 80min CD-R perfectly. Otherwise, try activating overburn feature if your burner does overburn. -
Thanks guys, all your information was helpful. In my case, I did not change any settings between writing to the CD-RW and writing to the CD-R, although I don't know if Nero did without my knowlegde. I do have overburning turned on, although I don't know for sure if my burner supports it or not. My burner is an HP CD-Writer+ 8100, old I know, only 4x and I usually burn at 2x. I did noticed it defaulted to Track-at-Once, I didn't know the difference until now so I'll try again as Disc-at-Once. Thanks again for your comments!
