  1. Hello. This is my first time posting here. I've been creating VideoCDs for fans of a particular band, Counting Crows, and distributing them via an ftp server. The thing is, is that I've been using Nero .nrg files, asking the users to download the Nero demo to burn them. But...I know this can't be the best option as it's just on the PC platform, and because some users experience various errors trying to use Nero (Invalid Field Parameter being one of the most popular).

So, the people I'm distributing to, are for the most part, novices, thus I felt .nrg files would work well as they only require the user to double-click on them.

I'd like to move to a wider image format that can be used on PC and Mac and is still relitively simple for an unexperienced user to burn to CD.

Anyone have any ideas on what is the best way (and relitively simple for me to help troubleshoot end-users with) to distribute VCD images?

    Thanks.

First, let me add the bin/cue format will also work for the wide-spread audience you have. Do a SEARCH in this forum with the keywords BIN and CUE together for more details.

Second, I'd like to say what an incredibly brilliant idea you have for Counting Crows fans. I was thinking the same thing myself earlier for fans of The Style Council. I have only one video of theirs so far on VHS so I'd be starting small. I also don't want my place to be overrun by fans of The Jam or Paul Weller solo, although I love all of Weller's phases (moreso solo, less so The Jam).

I want to write you privately to discuss ideas. Whats your email?

I'm looking forward to you getting back to school and into more bandwith!

    ISO is not appropriate here.

ISO usually means 2048 byte blocks, which is usefull for MODE1 or MODE2 form1 w/o subheader flags.

for (S)VCDs you need an image format which includes subheader flags and MODE2 form2 sectors (which have 2324 bytes of data)

NRG is quite a bad idea (as any other proprietary formats) unless you want to promote the nero burning tool (which is arguably a good thing to do if you don't get paid for doing so...)

bin/cue images would come to mind; it's well known, widely supported and quite simple... and btw that's the format most vcd's exchanged in the internet are in...
