well steve, ive had this one for over a year, and ive never had any problems with it whatsoever. Only problem with it is that it does not have an optical zoom on it, only digital.

  3. Looks like a nice camera but I would like optical zoom since half the time digital can start to get pixelated. Thanks for your input

    Hi,

Try www.dpreview.com for impressive reviews of lots of cameras from a photographer's perspective.

For web-work only you probably need less than 640x480 in the final image. If you get somewhat more resolution you can crop without losing quality. This can be done easily with a camera of (say) 1 megapixel; which are a lot cheaper than, say, 4-5 megapixel cameras.

I suggest looking for a camera that gets good reviews on the photography side. This ensures you're likely getting good glass (the lens) and other features. Just like film cameras, cheaper cameras must skimp somewhere and lens quality is usually the first to go.

Just thought i'd throw that out there.....Here's my thought...I was almost convinced I wanted to get a new digital camera...
Then I saw how camcorders have droped in price...Now I am waiting for a good deal on one that shoots stills and uses memory cards.....prices now are less than still cameras.....half of em have usb connectors and audio video connectors. Plus you can shoot full movie ..not just clips like the still digital cams.

Get something your comfortable with - optics, feature set and performance.
If it's for web based work then great - just about anything will work.
However if it's for printing then consider getting "okto good" camera and a photoshop plug-in called "genuine fractal" from
    http://www.altamira-group.com/
Genuine fractal uses you guessed fractal mathematics to enlarge your photo's to almost any size you want. And they look STUNNING

I have a Canon A30 1.2MP camera that I purchased after much deliberation. It spits out 1280x960 photo's that normally have a maximum recomended printing size of 4x6" photo's - currently I have an A3 full colour photo that looks almost as good as a film camera.
This little tool is well worth the cost

I realise that you are doing web work - but this little plug-in is just so good to pass up a chance to talk about , oh and I love my new "lowly" Canon A30

  11. Mad,

I can't find any cheap camcorders with still imaging on them... Sony's cheapest I found was $800 and Panasonic has that E-Wear thing for $400

no, you don't want something with only digital zoom. YOU NEED OPTICAL ZOOM.

With DIgital zoom, all the computer does is crop the picture and it get's blurry and fuzzy.

With Optical zoom, the lens zooms in and the picture remains good.
