  1. I've got a Dazzle DVC II and have been having some audio sync issues, so I've been looking at alternative ways to capture my video. I looked at the help file at http://www.vcdhelp.com/mjpeg.htm. On the advice given there, I downloaded Virtual Dub. When I go to File -> Capture AVI, I get the following error:

You cannot use this device when another video application, such as DVD, video conferencing, video editing, TV viewers, or WebTV for Windows is already using it. To use this device for your current application, close the application that is using it. If WebTV is installed and running on your system, pause the "WebTV video and data services" on the taskbar tray by right-clicking its icon and choosing "Pause Services."

The only option is to click on "OK." Then a window pops up asking me to choose the video device. The only option is my Dazzle card, so I hit OK. The following message then appears:

Error 418: Capture device was not detected.

Only option is OK, followed by this error:

VirtualDub cannot connect to the desired capture driver. Trying all available drivers.

Only option is OK again, followed by:

PANIC: VirtualDub cannot connect to any capture drivers.

I'm running Window 2000 and I looked through my task list and didn't find any processes that should be using the Dazzle driver.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

The Dazzle drivers aren't designed to be used as a AVI capture device.
There is no way you can use this card to capture AVI files - the only apps you can use for capture is Moviestar (bundled) or TWNH - both of which use the same set of drivers.
I have never had a single audio sync problem with my DVC II
mind you I never use video preview - appart from being a sec or so behind it uses so much CPU time. I have an small TV attached to my capture system and zero problems
