  1. I am a newbie, and here is what I want to do:

Record from Sony TRV25 miniDV camera, edit in Adobe Premier, export as .AVI, convert to MPEG, and burn to a CD-RW disk for a Sony DVP-S530D CD/DVD player.

I have done the first half (imported from the camera, and edited my video), and I have my .avi file. I can play this .avi with Windows Media Player, Real Media Player, and others. Next, I am folowing the newbie directions from this site, and I know I need to get a MPEG file next, for burning to a cd-rw. OK, I have tried TMPGEnc, LSX-MPEG Encoder 3.5 Demo, and Virtual Dub. None of them like my .avi file. Here are the errors:

I played with the .avi output settings in Premier, but nothing changed. I have tried saving the movie from Premier as a .mov, but the quality goes way down. Is .avi the right file type to go with?

    -Thanks in advance

  4. When selecting a codec for AVI output in a good editor, select something that is easily converted with minimum quality loss. Uncompressed is best but large. HuffYUV is also lossless and good. Some people use MJPEG. I find Indeo5 with highest quality gives reasonable results and is on most all Windows PCs.

You might be using a DV codec which is not supported in some programs.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'
