  1. Hi, I hve recently downloaded a film in .dat format
    and i wish to burn it to cd'r so i can play it on
    my home dvd player.Can this be done,if so how do i
    go about it

    Any info will be a great help.

    you can do this with vcdeasy. when you start the program,click >tools then>mpeg scan then on the bottom you load up your .dat file and click convert! you now have an mpeg file ready to burn :P

    Alternatively, get a copy of VCDGear, and run it through the dat->mpg conversion. Or rename the dat to mpg, and multiplex it using TMPGEnc's mpeg tools (VCD option). Then burn with Nero usinfg VCD option.

  4. If you use burning software like Nero, WinonCD or EZCD Creator, you need to extract the MPEG file from the DAT file first. Use a software called VCDGear for this (works very well - you can find it in the Tools section).

    On another note, if the file is SVCD format and not VCD, and your DVD player cannot play SVCD, you may have to re-encode to VCD. You can use softwares like TMPGEnc for that.

    On a final note, if your DVD player is incapable of playing CDRs, try burning your movie onto a CDRW instead.
