right click on the avi and choose properties>Details and look at the codec info. then try to download the appropriate video codec. make sure that you have the nimo codec pack installed.

  4. If you are converting the ASF/WMV you should select Microsoft Mpeg4 as the target for the new AVI. It can then be converted to MPEG. There is a guide on divx-digest.com on this method.

  10. Microsoft made it hard if not impossible to do this so people would not transcode certain files into copiable formats.

If you want an easy way to convert, select source files in copyable formats such as CD audio.

You could always pay a professional to do it for you, that's what people do if they want something without having to do it themselves.

    Kitty is right!...

It takes time to convert video files. If you had 8GB of video to convert you should've known that 8GB of anything will take time to fillde with...

    Tip,

wmv, asf, smr (and all the like) videos are for the most part not worth re-encoding to mpeg for output to vcd. A lot of people won't even suggets DivX as a good source when i've seen some better than dvd quality divX movies out there.

But hey, I've had my share of wmv movies to convert. And they all took just as long as any other video.

I'm not sayin' Don't Convert it... I'm saying try and look at which ones are worth the time and effort and which ones aren't...
