  3. Im sick of microsofts crap. Open it in the latest release of tmpg, you may need to use the drop down menu to show all files, and re-encode the file. If you still have problems, do what I used to do... Get Nero burning rom, pretend your gonna make a vcd with the nero burning wizard. Load that .asf into nero, when it asks to re-encode the video tell it yes. Make sure you DONT have a blank cdr in your burner. When it gets done converting DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING!!!!!!, DO NOT HIT OK OR ANYTHING!!!! GO here on your computer (assuming your using XP or 2k) "C:\Documents and Settings\THE USER ACCOUNT YOUR USING\Local Settings\Temp". There you will see the nero temp file, after encoding, it will probably be the biggest file. Right click on it and choose copy, move the mouse to your desktop right click and choose paste. Give the file a .mpg extension. Case closed.

The nero does not recognise it as video file.
As for asftools, i still playing around with it.hopefully it works.

  6. Your 2nd to last option is to open that file, which I believe might be corrupt, in either the windows movie maker which comes with XP and Millenium, or windows media encoder (available for free at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/wm7/encoder.asp and try to create a fresh file. Then go back to the other techniques of trying to convert "the dreaded .asf" with the fresh file you hopefully just made. After that, probably your last option is to export the file through a video card, and then recapture it. By the way, the program ASF tools which you mentioned is mainly for repairing .asf files.

  7. No one's used StreamBox VCR before? It's the solution you're looking for :^)

Too bad it's not available on the web from the developers any more . . .

  8. Hi,actually it is not corrupted.i get some translator to translate the chinese for me.
it seems that the chinese window pop up wants me to purchase credit in order to view the asf file and acquire license.
by the way i use virtualdub 1.3c,it claim that it could not find decompressor for wmv1 which is not possible as i have all the codec installed.i strip index and remove header using asftools and is able to open using graphedit but when click play, the image is distorted and unviewable.
