Hey, is it possible to dub a vcd on a dvd player to a vcr that is hooked up to it? My friend wants some of the movies i've got and he doesn't have a dvd player. Pls respond as quickly as possible.
Thanks

Hi!
For that you would have to use your graphics card tvout (you would watch the vcd on your computer and record the movie in your vcr) or buy a capture card or usb capture box with tvout capabilities like the adstech usb instant dvd or matrox rt 2500 for instance.

about how much can you find a decent capture card for?? and once you do, is dubbing it a pretty simple process??

I burn vcds to watch on my dvd player which is hooked directly to my vcr. So, I have (many times) easily taped a movie played from the dvd onto a vhs for a friend. I have even rented dvds and taped them for myself.
If the movie is macrovision protected I have this little device called a 'video clarifier' that connects between the vcr and dvd. It will disrupt the signal and allow you to tape anything. (You can also use it for vcr to vcr connects). -
where can i get a video clarifier?? I know it macrovision protected (even tho i don't know what it means) And once i get a video clarifier, how do i dub it?? Just hook up both by way of a-v cables?? Please respond soon

Macrovision is an encoded signal that can be placed on vhs and dvd to copyright and protect against copying. I don't know if vcds also have this type of protection. I have only burned my vcds from downloaded movies and they were already macrovision-free.
I have the Video Magic II and I purchased it at:

Its around $50.00 but in my opinion it was worth it. You could probably look around on the search engines and maybe get lucky with something cheaper though.
I have used this device as I mentioned earlier to tape from both dvd and a second vcr. I haven't encountered any movies that weren't able to be copied yet by use of this device.
You just hook everything up with regular a/v cables. The device will be hooked up between the two machines. Example:
vcr to clarifier to vcr
or
dvd to clarifier to vcr
Our vcr has two line ins, so we have a dvd player hooked up on line 1 and a second vcr on line 2.
Its really quite simple and works terrific!
