  1. Hey all!

I'm trying to convert some files to AVI (an ASF and an MPG), using TMPGEnc. It worked for both, but the files are huge! 1.5 gig, when I'm seeing all of these files online that aren't more than 700 meg or so. I've tried several methods, converting directly or by separating the video and wav files. Doesn't do it to less than 1.27 gig. These are regularly sized movies, nothing huge...any suggestions???

    Thanks!

The file size is defined by the bitrate you use.
    for example:
1 hour movie in DVd format can be 2-3GB.
1 hour movie in SVCD format can be 1 GB
1 hour movie in VCD format can be 600 MB
1 hour movie in DiVX format can be 300-400 MB

Als of these standards use a different bitrate. So if you download a (for example) DiVx movie with low bitrates, and re-encode it to VCD format, then your filesize will increase.

If you want to encode movies and have very small files; go for DiVx. Problem is that you can see them only on a PC, and that is a shame.......
