Having recently convert an avi file to mpeg2 with tmpengc, I tried to burn it to DVD using Ulead DVD factory. The burn appeared to work perfectly, except when I try to play it on my standalone DVD player it doesnt read the disk. Also when I try to run it on the PS2, it plays the sound but no video.
Am I going drastically wrong somewhere.!!!

Does your standalone play dvd-r, not all will. Check the DVD Players compatibility section.
The PS2 is pretty choosy about the type of media it will playback. What disks are you using? This may be your problem.
Check the dvd disk has the necessary folders (video_ts and audio_ts). Check the dvd on your pc with a software player to see if it has burnt ok. -
I tested the playback on a computer DVD player and it was OK.
The media I am using is VIVASTAR DVD-R - 120min.
The audio and video files are included on the file.
I don't know if my DVD has autoplay of DVD-R, though Sanyo say it should take them. I have a Sanyo DVD-1500. Is there any particular media type I should be looking for to run on PS2.
I know that Power Director has an auto start facility for DVD that wont autostart, but I cant see a similar facility on Ulead. -
If the dvd plays ok in the pc, then maybe you should try a better dvd r for your ps2 and sanyo.
I have used verbatim in ps2 without any problems. Also anything made by princo seems to work ok (they make white label also I think).
When I used cheaper media such as data safe or bulkpaq, the ps2 didnt want to know.
Theres a load of posts in the forum about media compatibility if you search a bit. -
Hi Brian
I also had the same problem with my Sanyo 1500A.
What I had to do was use CQ_VBR on the TMPGenc to encode.
See link below.
http://webboard.pinnaclesys.com/read_messages.asp?WebboardID=1&ForumID=234&SectionID=5...read=327&lng=1
Media I've used to date.
Lync - Works fine with CQ_VBR
Verbatim - Have only tried this on VBR and had a jerky picture on the Sanyo. Should be ok using CQ_VBR
DATASAFE GOLD - OK with VBR6000 template - Normal Quality.
Hope this helps. If you find a better way to encode that works with the Sanyo let me know.
I've got a region hack if you need it.
Regards

my brother also has a sanyo dvd player, the discs i bought from esbuy.com did not work, they were the golds. however the silver purple generics from hypermicro.com played perfectly. neither played on ps2.

Hi Ripper
I would be interested to know if you used the TMPGenc DVD PAL template? If so what CBR or VBR.
Can you post the settings you used. See my post above.
Oh. Is your brothers Sanyo the 1500A.
