I have been reading through all the help files here to learn how to capture and edit the video and have had some success with it, but I have ran into a small problem with WinXP. It will only allow you to have a 4GB file and when I capture in AVI format I have found out that a 15 or so minute section has become around 4GB and then XP stops the recording of the video. Is there a way around this and if so how might I do this. If there is a help file that explains how to fix it I don't mind reading.
Can't say thanks enuff to the people that make this place work!

eh? well i assume your probably capturing to .avi file, lower resolution if you dont need it, and get a good compression for video and audio reduce quality of compression?.. or either just capture in real-time to mpeg, vcd/svcd whatever not as good quality but what can you do with 4gb?

Dang it, I figured someone was going to say that... I just reloaded my system..... I almost installed NTSF...... oh well, maybe I should sleep on this one.... I did by a large harddrive so that I could record full movies...
well I guess I could reinstall it again... not like I haven't done it a billion times before....
Thanks

scroll down to this:
How to use Virtualdubs Multisegment Capture (spill system)?
it will split file once limit is reached
still recommend NTFs thoug-much more stable -

I know I could have used the command prompt to just upgrade to it, but as with most Microsoft products, my experience is that it is always better to reinstall than upgrade....
I am reloaded under NTFS now anyways..... Thanks for all the help

Well, even after a total reload and only installing the Elsa drivers for the video card and the VIVO module, I can still only get UYVY 4:2:2 interleaved. I suppose this isn't a bad setting, is it?
I can change the codec to huffy codec tho...

I'm sorry to barge in on someone else's thread like this, but as your talking about Windows XP, I had to ask...
1) In order to use a video capture card on XP,(eg PCTV pro BT878 chipset), you need to have WDM drivers, correct?
But I'm a tad confused as I had understood it,you could not use VirtualDub to videocapture if you're using WDM drivers,& that it was only compatible for capturing with the older VFW drivers?
So can you capture on VDub using WDM drivers or not?
I'm currently considering getting WinXP home,(Presently a Windows 98 First Edition user),but I haven't had any practical experience with it to know how programs like VirtualDub are affected...
I know AVI_IO wouldn't work with WDM drivers,so what would be other alternatives that function as well? -
I have not had a problem capturing video from my VCR/Camcorder/DVD player or any other source at this point.
I haven't heard of anything your talking about as far as VDub not working with XP, but I am pretty new to this stuff, but like I said it works fine for me so far...

Can can also use a utility like PowerQuest Partition Magic to set up a NTFS partition. Short of that, you could also use AVI_IO for captures. It automatically avoids the 4 gig limit. I have the PCTV Pro capture card and never could get it to work with VDub.
