  1. I'm very new at this stuff.

    Does mpeg = mpg ?

If I want to burn a movie to VCD all I need is a burner if it is already in mpeg format correct?

For all other formats, avi, asf, mov, etc I need to convert it.

    What about mpg?

    1. Yes, .mpeg = .mpg
(Of course, it could be 1 of 2 diff. flavors- MPEG1 or MPEG2. If you want to be able to view both on your 'puter, ya gotta have both codecs. Look in the TOOLS section for them)

    2. If all you want to do is play them on the computer, burn 'em straight onto a Data CD-R and your done. However,
If you want to play them in a (S)VCD player application / Standalone DVD/(S)VCD player, with all the menu/chapter/stillpicture/loop features, YOU MUST AUTHOR IT FIRST. Read the AUTHORING section for info. In fact, read all the sections. Please, everyone.

    3. If your mpg is NON-Standard (S)VCD/DVD spec. You can either opt to make a non-standard disc-which may or may not play on various players, or Re-encode it to the standard spec.

    HTH,
    Scott
