  1. I ripped my copy of Reservoir Dogs, and all the files were under 4.5 gigs total. So i just opened Nero and tried to burn as a Video-DVD, the second it starts to burn, I get an error "Unexpected Exception" or something close to that. I don't know if it even wrote anything to the dvd-r. When I go the dvd in explorer, it says the capacity is 4.39 gigs, and my file is just under 4.2 (says explorer). WHen i open nero it sats my VIDEO_TS folder is 4.49 gigs. Then i try to burn it and get that error. Imusing a Pioneer 104 with firmware 1.20. I haven't installed any other drivers. Do I need to do so?

P.S. When i try using PrimoDVD, it says it couldn't find a writer to write to. Any ideas

I got the same Pioneer 104/1.20firmware. Primo DVD couldn't find the writer. GET the "Recordnow Max " it has 30days full function trial, it's easy and work the first time for me.
My Nero5582 came with Pioneer 104, burn first 3 dvdr OK. Then I got another 80gb HD. NOW Nero not working anymore, when I try burning I get "communication error" after a week of rearranging 4 HD, 1 dvdrom, 2 burners, format & reinstalled WINXP for at leasst ten times I gave up!!

Sounds like a conflict with a resource somewhere. Where is the DVR-104 on your IDE channels and what else do you have on your IDE channels. (NOTE: Install the DVD recorder as the MASTER of IDE CHANNEL 2).

thanks for the suggestion. device manager ok, No IRQconflict on bios. I've tried using DVR-104 on primary master, secondary master, Ide 1 master, ide 2 master, latter 2 on Promise ultra 100tx2 ide controller still Nero not working with dvd burn
(cdr-rw still works) weird things is I did burn 3 dvdr ok before I add another HD. It's ok now, I just use RecordnowMax which took only half as long as Nero all with simulation and actual burns.

  6. I used Nero 5.5.7.8 for 2 months with no issues. I was using the dvd video option which only showed up after installing 5.5.8 and then downgrading back to 5.5.7.8 because the newer version would not work. I tried upgrading to 5.5.8.2 and got the Unexpected Exception error also when trying dvd video option. I then went back to 5.5.7.8 and got the same error Unexpected Exception. I then tried the udf/iso option and it worked fine and the dvd played fine also. After 2 burns with udf/iso I tried dvd video again and surprisingly it worked. However after rebooting pc I get a new error using dvd video option, file allocation error or something to that effect. Then after several udf/iso burns it allows a dvd video burn, but after a reboot same file error. Does anybody know what is causing this?

  7. I had the same problem with nero 5.5.8.2.

Download the latest nero 5.5.9.0 update, problem went away. Can write to DVD-R at 2x speed now.

  8. Just to add some more info to an old topic, I managed to get my Pioneer A04 working by changing the mode to PIO. In UDMA mode, Nero would get a communication error (with Pioneer on secondary channel as master...no slave). With PIO mode, everything worked fine. Change it under Device Manager, IDE Controllers, Secondary Controller (or Primary), Advanced Settings.

I also could not get Primo DVD to write to the Pioneer with Nero installed. Primo lists the A04, but doesn't let you select it as a writer. I guess that the 2 software don't get along well together.
