  4. It just seemed odd because the guide on here showed the one they did had the file in that folder.

    I tried to burn it without that in, and it came up with an error straight away.....

  5. I guarantee you you don't need that file....... I use DVDMaestro to create my disks and burn them with Nero, and I just leave the .lay file out and it works just fine on a Pioneer 333 and an Apex 3201.

  6. Never had a problem leaving that out, among other files Nero found as not needed. What does that do anyway? Layer information? If so, since we are using single-layer disks, the file is useless anyway. At this point I don't know what I am talking about, I'll go now.

  7. Just curious.... what error does Nero give you with & without the *.lay file?

    If you are dragging files to NERO's VIDEO_TS directory using the DVD-Video template, don't worry about that file (it's not part of the DVD, just a file that Spruceup and Maestro create when they compile). I drag this file over all the time (and NERO always complains, but never drags it to the folder) and I have never had a problem.

    This is from another thread I posted;

    "I've tried burning (test burn) in Prassi but got an error (re my other thread), and I've also now tried in Nero. It starts the test burn, but a little way through came up with this error:

    Pioneer DVD-RW DVR104
    Communication failure
    Simulation Failed 1x (1380 KB/s)

    What am I doing wrong? I ripped the dvd in SmartRipper, authored in Spruce Up, and have select DVD-video with the same settings as on the Nero/DVD guide on this site, and thrown the files into the VIDEO_TS folder.

    I have burned a data dvd-rw ok (just a load on mp3's as a test to make sure the drive works) and that was OK. "

    I can't work out which stage of the proceedings I'm doing something wrong....
