Hi guys,
I have MPEG2 clip with "metalic" sound (something like you got with
bad downsampling from 48000 to 44000).
The question is: is it possible to correct sound or, at least, make it
softer (less metalic)? If yes, how, what software?
Thank you all in advance, Mark.
P.S. I do not have a source, so, to re-encode the source is not
an option in my case.

MarkLV,
Try using ssrc downloaded from doom9 below - add it as an external audio tool in TMPGenc under the Option, Envionment,External Tool,SFC option...
http://www.doom9.org/software2.htm#audio
This is the best tool for the job ...

To answer your question, no there isn't much you can do once you've got a file that has been botched by TMPGEnc. If you really want to try, you could extract the audio, convert it to a wave, and mess around with it in an audio editor. You could try using an equalizer effect to reduce the high frequencies with respect to the mids and lows. This won't eliminate your problem, but may reduce it.

MarkLV,
Sorry - didn't read the question properly....
As House de Kris suggests, I guess the damage has been done and no amount of messing about is going to get near the original.
Good Luck anyhow if you decide to try and butcher it !
