Help !!! Dansai 1010 wont play vcd or svcd

Hi, i recently bought a dansai 1010 from Tesco it has been great. But i the got a second for a friend same model number at a diferent store but it won't play vcd or svcd discs i have checked the version numbers and they are different. (Why would Tesco take these out on later models) is there any way of enabling the player to play these.. thanks in advance. P.S it's not the machine as three other people i know had same trouble with this current version.

boughta dansai 1010 today.had the same problem, it will not play copied discs. when i spoke to the people at tesco they said that dansai have altered the 1010.

any ideas
