    Arrgghhh

    now i really am stuck.

ok i have a new capture card.. DV1000LE (innodv.com) and i am having problems.

i have installed the card into a free pci slot and all goes well... windows xp pro sees the card and installs relevant drivers. (in hardware manager it is down as a ieee 1394 bus controller AND 1394 net adapter...???

is that correct ? are capture cards aka net cards??

    2) i am using ulead video studio to try to capture my home dv's - (is this the best s/w to use) and everytime i click on the 'capture' tag i get 'there is no capture device installed on your system' yet windows xp says it is there! and working fine... any ideas what i am doing wrong?? i have unistalled card.. (removed from device manager) but as there is no 'drivers' as such (windows appaarently deals with it - i have no driver discs) it's not that difficult to remove and add....

are there any simple tests to prove if my capture device is working correctly..

has my cam got to be connected and turned on before i try anything...

    I'm a bit stuck

noobie needs some help..... i beg of you...
    Any help is FAAAANTASTIC.. :D

Everything is working perfectly. I have XP Pro and a firewire card also. Yes the network thing is normal. You camera does have to be on and connected before you tell a program to begin capturing from it. When you plug in your camera and turn it on, XP should instantly recognize it and play a little sound. On my computer an icon appears in the toolbar and in the 'My Computer' window. If you need more help, post again.
