I recently started to capture TV shows with my tv tuner. I tried MPEG2VCR to trim out the commericals in the captured video clip but I am not able to accruately trim out the entire commerical out...a few frames are always left behind.
Is there a good software to exactly trim out every single frame of the commerical ?

Maybe Ulead VideoStudio 6 or MediaStudio Pro 6.5? They are both editors that work with MPEG. Trials available at www.ulead.com if you want to test them out.

Virtualdub will let you trim files on exact frames - even mpg files.Big_Jit -

Thanks Big_Jit and Mirror_Image
If it save the output file as AVI then I have to reencode it to VCD/SVCD etc...wonder if the output quality will degrade or not ? -

Why don't you use TMPGENC's merge/cut feature, under MPEG Tools?

Finally found a program that will let me trim out all the commericals from a videoclip. Yes MyFlix XE will allow a user to cut out every single frame of a commerical from a video clip but it is too time consuming comparing to MPEG2VCR.

I'm using the MPEG1VCR I think its pretty much the same as MPEG2VCR I use it to cut out the commericals and cut out stuff from R rated movies so my Kids can watch them. I have tried many programs and MPEG1VCR is the best. I can go through a movie and cut all commericals in a couple minutes. I'm not sure why you have frames left behind I don't have this problem. What I do is view the movie up to the commerical so i see the start of the commerical then back to a frame right before the commerical and set the markin and set the markout one frame after the commerical then push the cut button. I do the same thing with cutting out scenes from movies. Just make sure you set the markin before the commerical starts and markout after the commerical ends. Hope this helps. -
mikejl , when using MPG2VCR I find it hard to set the "Mark In" and "Mark Out" exactly where I want them to and hence I end up cutting more or less of the commericals from the videoclip but with MyFlixXE you can easily set the markers where you want them. However I have to waste so MUCH time just to trim out a few commericals.
I guess I will try your method of using MPEG2VCR. -
Does anyone else have problems with mpeg2vcr running out of sync after cutting ? Seems like the more I edit with it the more it is out of video audio sync. Is there a way to fix this?
Thanks,Rick -
Rickyblaze
I have this problem using MPG1VCR I'll make about 4 cuts sometimes more and the video will become out of sync. What I do is push the record button and creat a new file when I open the new file the video is in sync. so every time the video goes out of sync i record it open new file and go from there. For me the video become out of sync just in the program and not the saved file. -
mikejl,
Are you saying to hit the record button and save as a new file before cutting? If so I will try it as I hate to go to another program because I like the ease of mpeg2vcr. I have been using it to edit dead space from our old home videos before putting them on dvd and have been kinda upset over wasting a few discs and finding them out of sync after editing. Thank you for your response.

Reading your last post we may not be having the same problem. My videos become out off sync only when editing in the program after I save the file the video is in sync. -
Mikejl,
Thanks for the clarification. I am having the opposite I am in sync before editing then get out of sync after a few edits. Thanks for the reply,

Rickyblaze & mikejl, whenever I edit a VCD/SVCD video clip with MPEG2VCR, Nero will say that the videoclip is not compliant. Is this considered video out of sync ?
-
If you capture with any settings besides standard compliant dvd standards Nero will say this. You can try to go ahead and write it even if Nero says this. I have had this happen with almost every disk I've made. Just click the bar that says turn off standard compliance and continue and you should be able to write disk. By the way what are you capturing at (settings)

May we know what format your files are kept in, or what s your format of preference?
It would help in recommending a suitable editor.
If you are looking at MPEG, TMPGEnc is perfectly suitable. I occasionally use the Moviestar software that comes with my Dazzle but it s crash-prone.
Cheers -
Rickyblaze, I did capture in compliant settings but for some reason after editing with mpeg2vcr I get the non-compliant message if I burn with Nero.
-
aguillon, sometimes I capture in compliant VCD/SVCD format but sometimes I also capture in mpg2 with high bitrate.
So far I have tried MPEG2VCR, MYFlixXE and about to try TMPGEnc.
As for time saving and easinest, MPEG2VCR is right on the top.
MyFlixXE can edit out every frame of the commerical which is good but it is very time comsuming to use the program. Moreover, It doesn't support SVCD.
MPEG2VCR is a good choice because it can handle mpg1 and mpg2. -
freetza, is MyFlix3.0 same as Myflix XE ?
In MyFlix XE you have to save every portion of the video clips you want and them put them all together and a single piece. -

After I'm done editing with MPEG1VCR I have to use this program MPEG Corrector before DVD movie Factory will let me burn to disk. You can find it by clicking on tools on the left. Under Repair/Converters. Some thing you could try. -
Editing size 15 gop is a real pain and nothing really does a great job of editing it. MPEG2VCR does about as good as anything else. The reason you still have frames left of the commercials is that MPEG2VCR only cuts on the i-frame. The RT2500 and Targa 3000 (expensive MPEG2 capture cards) capture and edit Mpeg2 in i frame then render out with hardware assist to 15 gop MPEG2. I capture broadcast tv with my ATI AIW in 15 mbps I-Frame only, progressive, trim with womble MPEG2VCR and then encode with either tsunami to SVCD stds or dvd2avi 1.86 to divx 5.02. If tmpgenc bitches about a trimmed mpeg 2 file not being supported, open in DVD2AVI and save as a .d2v project. Then open that project in tmpgenc. So far I haven't found many .mpgs DVD2AVI won't open.
