Note none of these may not work but worth a try.
1) Makes sure the power are plug into the same outlet.
2) If its a battry unit, use battries.
3) Go to Radio Shack and look for a Audio Dubbing cable.
4) Check to see if you have noize on the "Line input" with nothing pluged in. Some cheep sound card are noize on it's own. If so, replace the card with a higher grade card. Creative have some decent card for the price. -
The Windows recorder stinks get Cdex(rips, cddb, records, etc):

I would also recommend the Goldwave audio recorder program. It's available from http://www.goldwave.com in a trial version. It's worth paying the shareware fee for the program, since it's the most flexible audio recording program I've found.
Its record panel selects only one sound source from your sound card, which may especially help your case. (I get the feeling that your microphone, or other items plugged into your sound card, may be responsible for your noise.) And at the very worst, the program has various filters that you can try to reduce noise on the tapes.
Before you buy it, though, if you have Nero Burning ROM for making CD's, you might try their own audio recorder. Just go to your sound card's volume controls (right-click the icon on your plugin tray) and turn down or mute anything besides your audio card's LINE IN. Give it a shot.
(Goldwave's still better, since it will make unattended audio recordings for you on a timer, and has a bunch of bitrate settings.)

Yes the "stock" one from MS is a gutless wonder. IE one minute max.
Check your sound card usualy they install somthing.
In the Full downloadable DirectX SDK kit is a small program "CaptureSound". Uses Direct X for capture. Have pushed it to six hours+ in 8khz mono.
The Nero audio editor also has a recorder. There is a noize filter that does some intersting cleaning.
Basically what type of noise? Is it a 60hz sound { IE hum } or a hi level random sounding hiss like a receiver turn to a frequency or channel where there is no signal? Or a combo of the two?
Just in case because it always gets me is check line level input rec volumn. Too little from the source and too much boost from the line in on the snd card can cause noise problems also. Simpply unplug the cable feeding the line in. Adjust line in level for just where the noize dissapears or haf way if you hear no noize. Which ever is better. Then plug it back in. Adjust level from source. Note if you have noize no matter what then thats another problem.
Good Luck

I just spotted a small sharewareprogram on www.mpegx.com especially for cleaning up wav-files. (remove hiss and background-noise). I haven't tried it myself but maybe you could give it a shot. Check here: http://www.mpegx.com/audio.asp?dcat=AudioEditor&detail=1379
I have used the program Clean from Steinbergs for the same purpose in the past and that program is really very good - lots of options. You could try to get a copy of that program too.
Good luck, Jack
