Problems with Nero

I recently purchased Nero 5.5, after using the trial version from this site. I was previously using Easy CD creator 5 platnium, but I was told that you can click and drag an AVI file over, and Nero would convert it to MPEG, then burn it to VCD. The problem is, whenever I try and do that, the program crashes, locks up, and upon CTRL+ALT+DELETE, it lists the program as "(not responding)". Any Ideas as to why this is happening?

Whats more important is that nero is absolutley shit at converting to mpg, just dont bother, just use tmpgenc
