  1. Why does my VCD play audio, but the video is black?

    Background:

I used TMPGEnc to convert a .wmv file into a VCD-compatible .mpg file. The resulting .mpg file plays fine when I play it on my computer, but if I use Nero to burn it to a VCD, and I play it in my DVD player, the audio plays OK, but I see a black screen instead of video.

When Nero burns the VCD, it doesn't attempt to convert the video, so I know that TMPGEnc is creating a VCD-compatible file.

I have successfully created other VCDs from .wmv files using Nero (without TMPGEnc) and they play OK -- but I want to use TMPGEnc to avoid audio sync problems that sometimes happen with Nero VCDs.

    I have Windows XP Pro
    I have TMPGEnc version 2.55.38.142/core 1.88.135
    I have Nero version 5.5.8.2
I used the TMPGEnc wizard to do the VCD .mpg conversion with all default settings (also used all default VCD settings in Nero)
My DVD player is a Toshiba SD-2800
    I'm using Memorex 700MB/80min CD-R

    Any advice appreciated!

    Thanks,

  3. I don't know if I'm loading the NTSC/PAL standard template. I don't know a lot about TMPGEnc... when I start it up, I use its Project Wizard to select "NTSC" under the first "Video-CD" heading. This is called "Video CD for NTSC (North America and Japan)". Is this what you mean?

  4. Well, I solved the problem... after reading similar posts in the BBS on the TMPGEnc site, I set the priority for DirectShow multimedia file reader to 2.

To do this: open TMPGEnc, cancel the wizard if necessary, go to Option > Environmental setting, click on the VFAPI plug-in tab, then right-click each item to change its priority.

You should set the DirectShow multimedia file reader priority to 2, and set the other items priorities to 0.

Based on what I read in the TMPGEnc posts, I have a feeling (but I'm not certain), that this is an XP-specific issue.

  5. Think I mention the link to the settings quite often:

    http://www.homepagemodules.de/board/topic.php?&board=1213&id=46801&forum=1860

follow the instructions given there to configurate TMPEnc and the problem will be solved.

    good luck!
