I am new to conversiona, and have managed to convert several divx files to vcd but I have encountered a new problem. While extracting the audio with virtualdub, I get the following error message that is preventing me from proceeding with the conversion:

WARNING: ACM reported error on audio decompress!

I have never gotten this message before so I have no Idea what to do to get around it. I have seen tips about AC3 audio and other stuff I know nothing about, but I don't know how to begin to determine what to do in this situation. Please help me, because I want to see this movie bad!

While your at it, maybe someone could tell me what these two messages mean:

    1. AVI Import Filter:
Reconstructin missing index block (aggressive mode).

    2. "WARNING: VirtualDub has reconstructed the undes for this file, but you have not specified rekeying in the extended open options dialog. Seeking in this file may be slow."

thanks ot anyone that takes the time to help me out here. I usually get great help from lots of folks on this site!

    Peace,

  2. for your audio extraction problems take a look here:-

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm#ac3

    as for your other questions,

    1) Virtualdub has discovered there is some missing information in the avi file and is trying to reconstruct it.

    2) On the file open dialog box is tick box (not part of the standard windows fileopen dialog and easy to miss). Tick this when opening your file and an extra dialog will open. Tick the re-keying (or is it derive key frames, cant remember but something like that) and then click OK. AFter vdub has done re-save to a new file by setting audio and video options to direct stream copy and then doing save as avi from the file menu.

    Hope this helps

So is this ACM thingy mean that I have to go the AC3 route when converting? I mean, there are instruction in the divx to vcd guide for AC# and OGG audio, is this where I should look? I checked out the link above and it was tmpge help, but I encountered this problem in vdub. I just want to be sure what I am doing before I do it. I like to understand the directions that I am trying to follow, you know?

  4. That error normally means you have an audio format that vdub cant handle conversion of itself. So you have to extract the audio in its existing format and convert using some other tools. That link was the wrong one, sorry. Try this one:

  5. Hi,
Newbie here, I've been trying to get the wav from a divx file, but virtualdub keeps giving me an acd error message a 1/4 way through the process. I've read the guide and thought I might have to change it to an ac3 file. But when I look at the file information it has the audio listed as Creative mp3 Codec not ac3. What should I do?
    Thanks
