if you own a apex and have used tscv to make svcd chapters successfully please let me know. i own a Apex 703 and with tscv i can make and view seamless svcd chapters but the problem i am having is that only 2/3 of the screen has the movie showing. The other 1/3 has a big blue block. i am thinking this is a apex problem since the svcd works fine in windvd. i also found out that if i turn off pbc on the apex the movie does not have the bar but without pbc the chapters do me no good. if you have this problem or don't have this problem please let em know. thanks for your time.

How are you burning your image? What kind of image is it?
If it's in a bin/cue format, you know not to use Nero to burn it. Nero does not add the correct sector offsets which causes problems like 2 second shortages, improper menu displays, etc. If a VCD Imager file is burnt with Nero it displays the same problems your describing, doesn't work unless PBC is off.
If you are burning bin/cue's with Nero, don't. Nero's web page and help file discuss the reasons why it doesn't do it correctly. Use CDRDAO, FireBurner or a program designed to handle bin/cue images.
If that's not your case, take your SVCD to Best Buy and try it out on a few other DVD players to find out if your Apex is faulty or not. I've tried chapters with both VCD and SVCD and don't have any problems on my 500, which is the exact same as your 703 minus the changer. -
An other user had the same prob. This is what he wrote me:
TTool, I upgraded the firmware of the DVD Drive in the Apex DVD player
(it uses and IDE DVD-ROM drive) and now I can use the chapters on it.
The one where I put the first chapter at 120 starts at 2:00 minutes
(as it should) instead of 0:00. And the other one with 0, 240, 360 chapters
works great. The << & >> work fine, and the display of elapsed timed works
fine. Time remaining is always reported as 0:00 (is this correct?) and
the Goto time XX:XX button does not accept any input. I will give the
new version a spin. This is a really nice tool!!
Thanks,
Shane -
No i used cdrwin to burn the bin file. I also upgraded the firmware and that didn't help, blue bar is still there.
Would love to take my cd to bestbuy or a deparment store but i live in the boonies and there is no store close enough that has dvd set out to try.
will keep plugging away and hopefully ill fix the prob. thanks for replying -
Anybody else out there who has sucessfully made svcd chapters with TSCV? I can make chapters but they are not seamless and this is the only proggie that i have used that actually makes seamless chapters, and this is the only proggie that creates the blue bar on the tv when played back. If anyone who owns a apex (703) please post. thanks
