  4. Okay... It looks like you've actually got several problems.

I'm going to tackle the 12a/12i thing first. Let me guess - 12i locks up after spitting out a couple of frames every time you try to convert something. 12a seems to work fine, though, right? If that's the case, you're probably running Windows 98 SE. The beauty of it is that every release after 12a refuses to work on SE. You need to either upgrade to ME (NOT Recommended, but that's just me) or start over and just go as far as Win98 Rev. 1.

For your AVIs, the most likely problem is that you don't have DivX installed. Mind you, there are actually two versions floating around now. There's a new release, which you can get from http://www.divx.com called Beta 4. There's also an older version (which most stuff uses) called 3.11 Alpha. You can grab that by searching on Google.

If that doesn't clear up your problems, send more info. Good luck!

What do you mean that ever release of TMPGEnc after 12a doesn't work in Win98se? You better come over here and tell my PC that is running Win98se that it shouldn't run TMPEnc 12b-12i, as that is the only ones that I have run and they all work fine. Never touched 12a in my life. Little hole in the theory there bud!

  6. OK,I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM.WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO IS FIRST,MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT CODEC,THEN WHEN YER IN TMPEG GO TO OPTIONS,CLICK ON ENVIROMENTAL SETTINGS.GO TO PLUGINS,THEN LEFT CLICK ON DIRECTSHOW,RAISE THE PRIORITY TO
3,THEN RAISE AVIVFW TO 2,HAVE ALL THE PLUGINS CHECKED EXCEPT AVI2.I TRYED THESE SETTINGS WITH TMPEGI,AND IT WORKED GREAT.HOPE THIS HELPS.BY THE WAY I ALSO AM RUNNING A ATHLON.

  7. I Had the same problem today. I downloaded 12i and it wouldn't accept my avi files. So I read help and it said to download 12a if that happened. It worked fine, converted right over to mpg. Then I burned it, went to play it in my dvd and NOTHING! The dvd acts like the cd isn't there. I tried a few different things and nothing. I said forget and watched the movie on the computer. Toooo much stress for one day!

I'm only reporting what I've been able to find (on 3 separate machines). I'm not the only one either. Check the "Problems" Column at the bottom for Win98 SE:
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/oscomparisons.htm

Out of curiosity - Why does it work for you? (j/k, I don't expect you to know...)

I downloaded and installed TMPGEnc 12i and converted a one-minute clip of an old DivX I made, plus a new one-minute DVD to MJPEG avi I made just this morning. TMPGEnc encoded both without issues. Although my test clips are shorter than the reports listed here, I think it should work without a problem.

The only thing I can think to suggest is did you make sure your re-registered that VFAPI.bat file when you installed 12i?
