ok, so i am using smart ripper to rip dvds, then dvd2avi to make the project file/wav file, then tmpg to compile/encode the files. Finally, i use tmpg again to split the files into good sizes/lengths and nero to burn the svcds. They play wonderfully in my dvd player, except when i try to fast forward them, in which case they stop playing, and restart at the beggining. Is this supposed to happen? am i doing something wrong? anyway to fix this?

    Thanks,
    Kev

  2. Kev, not sure of your specs, but I had this happen when trying to do SVCD's on my Apex player. VCD's play and ff/rw fine, and SVCD play fine but SVCD would not ff/rw. From what I read, it had something to do with something Nero was doing, in other words no fault of my own. I stuck with VCD for awhile, but recently I switched to SVCD using the DVD2SVCD method. I still burn with Nero, but it uses an image file DVD2SVCD generates, and now my ff/rw problems are gone. Sorry I don't have more specific info on the cause.

If I remember correctly... you need to put the "scandata.dat" file in your EXT forlder of the SVCD before burning it with Nero. Well thats what I read somewhere on this site...

I've tryed that but when I tryed to FF or rewind my SVCD it would not FF or rewind correctly...

You're supposed to have the scandata.dat in the ext folder, but it seems to be picky (needs to contain "SCAN_SVCD" without quotes, AND a blank line after it). It didn't seem to work with mine, so I gave up and learned to jump to the correct time (on my apex I jump to 2x the correct time and it gets there...). Anyway, Nero won't work correctly for SVCD. I doubt they care much, as this is a very old problem.

Ok. You nedd to put the "Scandata.dat" file in your EXT folder of your SVCD. You can get it from the EXT folder of a regular VCD.

But if I were you, I'd just stay with VCD since Thorn and I both tryed it but had no luck. You can make a non-standard high quality VCD (with a higher bitrate) and you'll be better off.

    Hi,

A correct "scandata.dat" may still be available for downloading here. But the last couple of versions of Nero include it automatically. Getting the newest version of Nero should solve the problem.

  8. There is a way to resolve that. Take the
TMPGEnc 1.2 program and use a Mpeg Tool with the name: ' VBV Buffer Size Optimization '. Its very easy to use. Then you can't play it to Fast-forward in 4x Max.

Here is my way to rip the DVD to SVCD:

To create the Mpeg2 i use DVDx 2.0. Then i use TMPGEnc 1.2 with ' VBV Buffer Size Optimization ' tool and finaly i burn it with VCDEasy.

    Sorry my English!

    Regards from Portugal.
