Lots of posters have said that you can make xvcd movies with ulead moviefactory. I always get a 'non-compliant' message. How about a step-by-step walkthru of how this is achieved? Template settings etc.. I encode with TMPGEmc to a xvcd.

Lamont Cranston where are you? You where the one who said it could be done. How?

Magpie,
I have managed to make XVCD with MovieFactory, but only in terms of higher bitrates than standard. If you go too high on a CBR, or try VBR for VCD, it will not accept the MPG. My standard bitrate for Movie Factory is now 1280, which it accepts fine.
I have not (yet) been able to make a "wrong" output size VCD - such as the KVCD 2Disk profile for TMPGenc (720x576, or similar).
Does that help? -
Requirement for VCD:
NTSC: MPEG-1, 352x240 progressive, 29.97 fps,
pel_aspect_ratio = 12 (CCIR601, 525line)
PAL: MPEG-1, 352X288 progressive, 25 fps,
pel_aspect_ratio = 8 (CCIR601, 625line)
Audio: MPEG-1 Layer 2, sample_rate = 44.1 kHz
Requirement for SVCD:
NTSC: MPEG-2, 480x480 interlaced, 29.97 fps,
pel_aspect_ratio: 4:3, video_source_format: NTSC
PAL: MPEG-2, 480X576 interlaced, 25 fps,
pel_aspect_ratio: 4:3, video_source_format: PAL
Audio: MPEG-1 Layer 2, sample_rate = 44.1 kHz
Requirement for DVD:
NTSC: MPEG-2, 720x480, 704x480, 352x480, 29.97 fps,
pel_aspect_ratio: 4:3, video_source_format: NTSC
PAL: MPEG-2, 720X576, 704x576, 352x576, 25 fps,
pel_aspect_ratio: 4:3, video_source_format: PAL
Audio: MPEG-1 Layer 2, sample_rate = 48 kHz
XVCD
For VCD, if data rate exceeds the VCD specification,
the output will become XVCD. For example, many DVD player
supports XVCD at 2400 kbps data rate.
SVCD
For SVCD, if data rate or frame size exceeds the SVCD
specification, the output will become XSVCD. For a MPEG-2 file
with DVD resolution (720x480, 704x480, 352x480, 720x576, 704x576,
352x576), the program will create XSVCD if the audio sample rate
is set at 44.1 kHz.
----------------------------------------
If you create a mpeg 1 file to the above specs and the video data rate exceeds VCD specs (1150 kbps CBR (No VBR)) DVDMF will prompt you with a message stating your mpeg file exceeds VCD specifications- Do you want to create a XVCD. I hope this helps. -
Thanks Lamont Cranston and Corkey i will give it a try with this info. Seems like i might stick to the boring menus of Nero if these options don't work as my best results come from a 352x288 mpeg2 .Hopefully NeroVision Express allows xvcd when it is released.

This might help: Try using CBR in TMPGEnc
I burn vcds using Ulead Movie Factory and here is what I know. I have burned VCD succesfully with bitrate upto 2750K (that's what is the limit for my standalone DVD player) with Ulead MF whenever I used CBR in TMPGEnc while encoding. But I also could not burn a VCD with Ulead MF whenever I encode it using VBR(2 pass) in TMPGEnc. It complains of Non-Compliant mpg. Let me also know if you find a solution why it reject mpgs encoded in VBR mode.
