  1. I need a DVD authoring program that will let me import MPEG2 files and AC3 audio files. I need something with basic menu creation and easy to set chapter points. Also, I need a program that will just mux my files together and not "check" them like Sonic's DVDIt PE does. Pinnacle Impression DVD Pro fit this bill PERFECTLY but even after applying the 2.21 patch for the pro version, it still crashes a LOT on my XP system and I'm fed up with it.

    Any recommendations?

    Hi john1290,

SpruceUp will take AC3 files, and DVD Maestro will take AC3 and DTS encoded audio tracks. You can download SpruceUp from here. With SpruceUp trial you can author one DVD project. Then, if you like it, send me a pm with your email.

    Regards,
    Kabanero.

    Scenarist comes with AC3 encoder.

DVD Workshop should have an AC3 encoder sometime in July, according to other postings on this forum.

I've had a boatload of trouble trying to get SpruceUp to accept an AC3 file.. Any pointers??

My audio source is captured in Adobe Premier.. I can output it via premier as a raw avi file, then run it through besweet to get the AC3 file, but SpruceUp will not take it...

    Grrr..

And I wouldn't mind DVDit! encoding it for me if I could, at least, demo the software BEFORE I buy it (I bought MyDVD, and, for anyone but the novice user, it just does not hold up)..

DOH! You're right.......I installed Scenarist AGAIN and noticed it did have a standalone AC3 encoder. I feel so stupid.......so newbish.......I initially gave up on Scenarist because of it's complexity but looks like I'll use VV3 for capture, TMPGEnc for compressing the video to MPEG2, Scenarist AC3 encoder to convert WAV to dolby and SpruceUp to author. (Sure would be nice to have some sort of 1 stop shop program.)

Anyone know if it's possible for VV3 to save the audio tracks seperate? I currently take the WAV into GoldWave and seperate the left and right channel. Can I eliminate goldwave and do that with VV3?

A good craftsman has many (excellent) tools in his toolbox, not just one fancy swissknife...
