Does anyone know of a VCD/SVCD software player that works on a IBM laptop using a Pentium 150MHz (no MMX) 48MB memory and 2mb video?

I know that media player will play the files, but, I am looking for one that will play a VCD/SVCD with menus and chapters.

None that I have found will work with a computer so out of date as what I have.

  2. I doubt that SVCD playback will work on a 150MHz machine, but you might be OK with VCD.

I don't know a software VCD-player that recognises entrypoints, but as far as menus are concerned, you might want to try VCD_PLAY.exe, which is a neat little VCD-player that WinOnCD puts on the VCDs created with it.

I've spent all day looking for players that would not enable the macrovision on my ATIradeon card ....so I've downloaded about 10 today.
I-on Video CD player is perty good, 1.2mb instal size so the file fits on a disc. And requirements out of manual:
    System Requirements
CPU: Pentium 133 MHz or higher
    HDD: 5MB free space
OS : Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT

I dont remember where I got it....but manual says its avail at

I like to thank the group for their answers. I'll be trying them to see if they work.

BTW: I wish to take care of some mistakes in your post:

1: The link to I-on Video CD by MaDmiZe no longer works. However, I did find it at www.raabtaoline.net/multi.htm

    2: Win_play.exe can be found at www.phikappamu.com

    3: (I don't know a software VCD-player that recognises entrypoints)
But, If you have the requirements, I found that InterVideo Win DVD plays VCD/SVCD much better that any software DVD player. It has played everything I have ask of it with no problems. THe same can't be said of Power DVD. My friend has it and it can't even tell if there is a disk in the DVD player or not (and yes - the autorun command is on)!

In case you're referring to my post, VCD_PLAY.exe is NOT the same as Winplay (which is an mp3-player as far as I know). The website you quoted is that of a fraternity, and I didn't see any download links there, so that left me a little bit confused.

I found that InterVideo Win DVD plays VCD/SVCD much better that any software DVD player.
But as far as I know it doesn't allow you to access VCD-entrypoints either, and besides it may be too resource hungry for your P150 (which your question was about). Having said that, I prefer WinDVD over PowerDVD as well.

hey guys, im in a similar situation. I just picked up an old laptop very cheap and was looking for a descent vcd player (other than wmp) so far, the best luck i have had is sthsvcd

    http://dvdarea.free.fr/studio/lecteurs/sthsvcd_55.exe

note: i can allmost play a svcd on it also, but i have to drop the quality down pretty far because is being software rendered. Only annoying thing about the program is that it displays a counter in the top right side of the screen, and i can't seem to figure out how to remove it. Other than that, its a sweet little app.
