Hi, I have a TV show captured with AVI_IO and huffyuv 1.3.1 (no rgb->yuv2 conversion).
The of the show as captured was close to 24 minutes and the cap file turned out to be close to 11GB. Now when I cut out the commercials and try to save to with the same lossless setting in huffyuv, the projected file size in virtualdub shows as 17GB!
The filters I am applying are in the order: smart deinterlace followed by the unsharp filter.
At first I thought that the file size will come down as it progresses... but after about 45% processing, the rendered file size was 7.5GB already.
What I want to know is whether this is normal? If so is this due to extra data generated by smart deinterlace?
Secondly, If I save with huffyuv with the rgb->yuv2 conversion on (lossy), I see that the file size for about 5 minutes of capture is about the same as if I had captured without the option. I know the loss is very less, but to the point that turning it on or off doesn't even matter? I remember the hint below the checkbox for rgb->yuv2 states that the compression, although slightly lossy, is significant.
I am not sure if this is a setup problem (I recently had to repair my windows xp installation due to too many hardware changes) or something I am completely missing in virtualdub.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

You need to switch to audio > streaming and video > streaming, Vdub will save in the same format as the original, less the frames you removed. -
Go under both the "Audio" Menu and the "Video" Menu and choose "Direct Stream Copy"

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I am using some filters in virtualdub to get rid of the interlacing and also the unsharp, so I really cant use direct stream copy.
The audio is set to "No Audio" since I edit the extracted wav separately. That should be even more reason for the file size to be lesser. Right? -
DoH...
Then your not matching the output exactly as the original, when you select the codec, do you hit configure and alter the bitrate ?
Also why not cut out the commercials using streaming, then load the new AVI in for further full processing.
What are you going to do with the AVI ?What's wrong with DivX ?
