  1. So if I am understanding correctly..
The easiest way to make a back up copy of a DVD.. is to:

    1. Rip the DVD to an AVI file?
    2. Convert the AVI file to an MPEG2 VCD file?
    3. Burn VCD's on two parts?

    What about DVD to DVD-r?

Where can I look on how to copy DVD to DVD directly..
or is there such a way?

You rip the DVD and get the vob files.....
The vobs are used to get a file that is compatable with your encoder.
Those are are then encoded to a mpeg1 (for VCD)or mpeg2(for SVCD)

As for how many discs...thats a personal pref... I never use more than one disc for most movies.

But do you get nasty compression for that - or are you talking DVD RW now?

Is there a big dif between VCD and SVCD?
    Thanks.

No not nasty compression...they look like reg vhs ...tape stuff. I did put Pearl Harbor on 2 cds ...but it was like 3hours and 3min.

I cant see the big deal about SVCD as compared to VCD.
Cons as I see em: mpeg2 stops working in TMPG after 30 days, quality for size aint any better, they are less compatable with stand alone DVD players.
If you want better quality just up the bitrate on a VCD (makes it non standard) but I usally want everything on one cd ....so I dont do that.
