To most peopel this won't be any use but people with panasonic dvd players may know that most of them can't play mpeg2.
To be able to play mpeg2 quality in a panasonic dvd player simply
Step 1:
If your svcd is in a bin file extract the mpeg out using vcdgear. If its the mpeg you got go onto the next step
Step2:
Open TMPGenc and goto File>MPEG TOOLS then Select the merge and cut tab select in the combo box Video-CD (The first one fo the two) Then click add load your Mpg file into the program select your output file and click run.
Step3:
Open your favrite authorware software and burn if using nero click video cd drag the mpg into it(THe new mpg) then once its finished checking it it will say that theres somthing wrong click the button to turn it off (first button down) then click burn.
Now you will be able to watch svcd quality on your dvd players
The whole process only take about:
2 min to extract mpeg
10 to Convert the mpeg
then your burning time
and you can;t tell the diffrence between the svcd cd and that cd
Hope all your panasonic dvd player people enjoy your svcds

So, how come this works? I have been wondering why my DVD2SVCD output doesn't work on my Panasonic, but plays great on other players.
Cranyum -
Step2:
Open TMPGenc and goto File>MPEG TOOLS then Select the merge and cut tab select in the combo box Video-CD (The first one fo the two) Then click add load your Mpg file into the program select your output file and click run.
I use a JVC XV-521 bk
Having the same problem.
But step 2 is different to me.
Open TMPGEnc goto File--> MPEG TOOLS Select MULTIPLEX klick on ADD en select your mpeg-file.
Now choose MPEG1-VIDEOCD (NON STANDARD) Header
then select the destination pad & klick run.
Now When using Nero or other Burning soft select VIDEOCD NOT SUPERVIDEOCD when asking for turn off standard & Burn.
Now playing in the DVD You have SVCD quality playing.
It's just a shame that videocd doesn't support selectable sound & subs.
For having subs you'll need to rip dvd with permanent subs.

This does not work on the Panasonic RV-61K, tired it over and over again, so just gave up and used a Daewoo 5800 to play back SVCD at 6000 bitrate. Which I know no panasonic will be able to, no matter how you trick it.
-
so is this basically converting the MPEG II into an MPEG I VCD?
-
no, no, no....It is an SVCD with the VCD header!!! I never even thought about doing this...I'M SO HAPPY!!! I've been trying for months to make my Panasonic to play SVCD! Dude, thank you SO much!
SVCDs now play great on my DVD-RV31! -
You just saved me 200 dollars and alot of wasted blank cds. Thanks a bajillion!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Yes, I just tried it on a Stonecutters Buffy 6x21 cue/bin file (VCDGear 3.07 to MPEG-2) and it played perfect on my Panasonic RP56.
A W E S O M E !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks SOOOO much, I don't have to haul my Daewoo 3000 into the other room anymore, just to watch an SVCD!
-
hey
i tried that in tmpgenc and the sound came through but for the video it was just black. even when i played it on my computer. what do i do?? -
When I do this, it plays great when I play the CD on the computer, but in my Panasonic DVD player and every other DVD player I've tried playing it with, the audio and video are slightly unsinc. The video is about a quarter of a second ahead of the audio. Any suggestions?
-
@Jim E
Does that happens every time?
Sometimes when I play a SVCD with a VCD header the error occurs.
But when I turn the DVD off & on again the error is gone.
I have experience that some DVDplayers have those sync errors, because they have trouble reading MPEG2 movie stream.
Ever tried to : demultiplex cut 1 quarter of second of the movie & multiplex again?
This would work if the movie should work only in the players you mentioned.
I know : some DVD-players plays SVCD great.
other just need to have the SVCD-stream burned as VCD2.0 ,
again other need a SVCD stream with VCDheader burned as VCD2.0
And there are still DVDplayers that never plays Mpeg2 stream.
Like mine JVC XV 521 :
DVD -> perfect
SVCD -> NOT at ALL
SVCD with VCD Header burned as VCD2.0 -> Perfect
XVCD ( VCD with a higher bitrate) -> perfect
MINIDVD (Cdvd) -> will not work
MP3 -> will not work.

Would this process work for the Panasonic SA HT80 .?
So far NOT able to record anything that will play on this machine.......Would you guide me through a process.?
using.....
SMART RIPPER..then
DVD2AVI.... then
TMPGenc....then
Nero.........
I can go through this process and make a VCD MPEG-1 that works on my other DVD PLAYERS but no success at all for my PANASONIC.
I would really appreciate any help or comments you have.
I am NEW to these procedures so please use simple terms and instructions
THANK-YOU..... -
WORKS GREAT ON SONY Sony DVP-NS400

Thanks for the info. I had a Daewoo 5700 for the last 6 months (Gave the Daewoo to my mom and was thinking about getting it back from her if I couldn't finagle a way for the Panasonic to do the SVCD) that I thought was the bee's knees and played everything I tossed at it. -
Appraciate the tip, thanks but I have a Pansonic A115 which has never played any VCD lrt alone SVCD. I have tried burning at lower speed and different media both CR-R & RW butnothing works. If anyone has pointers on getting an A115 to do this pls let me know
Thanks! -
Awesome, works fantastically on my RV31, no problems at all with playback, no hiccups, no hesitation.
The only glitch is that I use DVD2SVCD to one-stop build my SVCDs and that creates a SVCD file that is 'sized' for the CD media size. When I do the TMPG bit, it adds lots of MB to the file and I can no longer fit the file on the CD in NERO. I really don't want to go back to building my SVCDs one tool at a time. Any thoughts, comments? -
i have a panasonic rv31 and nuthin seems to work for me. the svcd with changed header will play...but i get green noise blocks around the top of the picture any ideas??

As a follow-up to my previous post, I tried out the 90min pseudoSVCD (Just the dumb name I'm calling this method) movie I had with this method and it DID work.
But then I tossed in an SVCD of the same thing that I'd made a few months ago and it worked fine, as well. From this, I'm guessing that potentially the Panasonic MIGHT be able to read 'traditional' SVCDs if the bitrate is low enough (but I think the bitrate of that was around 800 kbps.)
As for my 'original' Invader ZIM SVCD, it did play with one MAJOR flaw: Audio and video were too jumpy/choppy to enjoy (I'm guessing the br was probably around 1600-1800 kbps).
After about 4 blank CD-Rs and getting the same results from this pseudoSVCD method and ZIM, I started from scratch and tried again. It seems those first 4 discs I blew must've had a corrupt video file since recopying it from the SVCD from scratch and rerunning it through TMPGenc and so on actually did produce a disc that the Panasonic SC-DK10 WOULD read. But this time (as opposed to the other 4) I simulated the burn before burning. Maybe that's the magic (for me, at least)?
But I noticed another trend with this: If I fast-forward faster than 2X speed, I lose audio when I hit play again. I figured out I can fix this by pausing the disc for a few seconds after a few seconds of soundless playing and unpausing it. Audio appears to come back. For other having a loss of audio, perhaps doing this might resurrect it?
I still have yet to test it with MPEG2 at higher bitrates (I might try to toss together something around 4000 kbps to see the results this week.)
I was about " " close to taking this player back because of lack of SVCD support... I just hope all future MPEG2 'pseudoSVCD' burns go by just as smoothly as this one. But if you have an MPEG2 that was never on a SVCD, do you still need to go through TMPGenc or can you go directly into your burning software (I'm under the impression that a SVCD Mpeg is slightly different from the source Mpeg that was used for it)? It's not that big of a deal to spend an extra 10 minutes, but I'm just curious. -
I have followed instruction to the letter & it doesn't work for me I have extracted the mpeg 2 movies from a bin cue file that is a scvd to my hard drive.
When I click the Run button I get the message that it's not a mpeg file. I have installed the latest dvx codec on my pc.
I have followed the links for nino codex and it leads to nowhere or the site can't process my request. -
I tried this on my Panasonic RV-26 and it did play although the Video had blocks that would come and go on top of the screen and bottom... Anyone know how to fix this problem?
-
I use the TMPGEnc to convert the avi file from my JVC miniDV camcorder into MPEG 2 (Super Video CD NTSC).Than I use the multiplex tool from TMPGEnc ( cut merge tool doesn't work for me) as instructed. The only thing I don't like is that the audio is jumpy/choppy. The video is OK. Any suggestions. And yes the dvd player is Panasonic RV 31

I would just like to report that this works on my Panasonic DVD player
model DVD-A112 which usually has trouble playing normal VCD (freezes).
The above method plays SVCD flawlessly from beginning to end with no freezes! WOW!
I can report the same problem fast forwarding. It starts again without sound, but returns if you press pause, then play.
Thanks for the info.

The Two VCD files are about 3.6GB in all. The DVD-Video menu is much different then that of the CD SVCD. Do I have to follow the guide in here on burning SVCDs to DVD, or is there some way to do this method mentioned? -
This doesn't work with PAL encoded SVCD's - only NTSC. I have the exact same problem as you if SVCD was PAL. I have an RP56 DVD player.[/quote]
thx barefoot the one i was trying WAS a pal i did reencode it ntsc and does work as long as ya dont fast forward or search .......sound goes wacky. the quality dropped a bit tho.......i also found re encoding to kvcd works great too with no loss of quality :P -

People, DO NOT use vcdgear to extract mpg 2. VCDgear is really for MPG 1. VCDgear can mess up your mpg2 if you are not careful. Use CDmage or isobuster to extract mpg2 files from bin/cue. Also, never use the "fix mpg" of VCDgear on mpg2 files. YOu will trash the file!!
