You may need to use your cards software to change channel, also you can only use one program at a time to access the tuner, if you have channel hopper accessing the tuner, no other program can use it.

  3. i have both powervcr and the aver software loaded,
are you suggesting i take one off?
is this why i cannot surf the channels, and tune in the television picture.

You don't need to un-install anything, just dont use them at the same time, but use your own cards softwear to change channel, this is normal.

  5. so i set the channel with the aver software,
come out of it, and then go into the powervcr software.
do i need to alter any of the settings?

Try reinstalling the AverTV's drivers again.
    Update them in device manager.
    Then reinstall directx

You *may* then need to uninstall / reinstall powervcr.

I have a AverTV and use powervcr sometimes. I've had that problem several times, one or all of the above fixes will fix it.

You do not need to use the avertv software to change channels in powervcr

  7. what software/settings do you use to get good results then.
as for powervcr, i load it up fine, i open it up, but there should be a
surf channel button on the display, which is not there,
do i need to ajust the settings when i forst install the programme?

PowerVCr isn't seeing your tuners drivers, that why the buttons are greyed out. Try the fixes and reinstall drivers / software.

Have you tried to do any of this ?, it seams a bit strange asking when it only takes a few seconds to try it.

Powevcr might never recognize your tuner, I don't have your card so don't know if it does, I assume it does not and therefore suggest an alternative method.

If the others do have the same card, then they will know it does work with it.

I have an AverTV sterio. It works with PowerVCR. I can tune channels within PowerVCR. I don't have to use the AverTV tuner.
But sometimes when I'm playing with drivers (installing 3rd party hacked ones) PowerVCR will stop seeing my tuner. This also happens with the AverTV software. It will quit working.

To get it working again, I have to reinstall the AverTV drivers and sometimes directx and sometimes uninstall powervcr and reinstall it so it reinitializes its search for capture devices. Same with the AverTV PVR software.
