I stripped "black hawk down" with english sound and subtitle and the movie play perfectly. But the total size of 5.5G won't let me burn into a DVD-R (4.3G limit outta 4.7G). So I try to split again to 2 DVD-RW so that I can keep all the dolby 5.1 and all features like original DVD. I just wanted to know if I can split a DVD movie that was already stripped once with ifoedit and what burning software I should use?. I already split DVD into 2 parts ( 3.2 G and 2.3 G). I don't know if I did right. It plays with ifoedit's built in player without glitch but won't let me burn with nero 5.5.8. Any link to guide sites would be appreciated.

  2. Did you ever solved your problem?

I too have the same problem. Used DVD Decrypter, have the 2 DVDs ready to burn. They play well using IfoEdit but when I try to burn using the software it came with HP 200i I immediately get an error back.

I'm trying to burn each of the two VIDEO_TS folders. Instant DVD wasn't any help either. It immediately hangs up.

  3. I'm a newbie to making DVD Video backups. However, the only way I've been able to make backups of these DVD-9's (ie.>4.38 GB) is to make a completely stripped down movie only disk. I would prefer that a single-sided recordable 9.4GB disk was available to the general public. Hint, hint Verbatim, Memorex etc. etc.!!!

  4. I had a similar problem with Moulin Rouge. The way I got round it was to rip the movie into a directory using DVD Decryptor which will select the movie VOB's automatically.

Once ripped split the VOB's into two seperate directories. You can delete the .IFO files if you like. These two directories will form the two disks you are wanting to create.

Rename the files in each directory so they start as VTS_01_1.VOB and increment up from here. In you first directory this may be ok and you may not have to later anything. In the second directory it will need changing.

Once you have done this, load up IFOEdit and use the 'create IFO' option. Select the VTS_01_1.VOB and choose a destination directory.

You can now use IFOEdit as you would normally to strip the relevent streams and create a disk image.

I then use this disk image in VOBInstant to create the standalone DVD as it is the only thing that works in my Toshiba DVD Player.

The only downside to this approach is that you do not get the original chapter information.

  5. Please provide more info about "VOBInstant". I can't seem to find much about it when I search on it. I assume it's a program; where can I get it?

    Thanks,

Ain't gonna happen any time soon. I've seen discussions involving some of the well-known brains in DVD (eg Jim Taylor, Ralph LaBarge) and the consensus is that the technical obstacles involved with producing dual-layer recordable disks are enormous. (Hell, just look how long DVD+R took to appear)

It's not just a case of releasing new firmware for your Pioneer.

bluesox if you use get vts sectors after you have used create ifos and then save, you will retain all the chapters
    works for me

  8. Or you can try Derrows site for splitting the DVD and keeping menus etc.

  9. I just rip the "main movie" files only with smartripper and select "every chapter" under the file splitter section in the settings. You will then have over 30 vob files most of the time but that's ok. You go to somewhere in the middle and choose where you want the second half to start. You then take all the first half vob files (lets say 1-22) and put them in a new folder and name it folder 1 (or anything you want). You then go in the folder and add 00 in front of every vob file's # (example: make vts_01_1.vob to vts_01_001). Do this to every file 002,003 etc (oh I'm sorry, for double digit vobs just add one 0 - 010,011). Then bring up VOBedit and open vts_01_001. You then go to "Edit" on top left and choose "join files". It will ask you to select a "save as" folder so put it somewhere empty and then click ok. Do the same to the second half files (23-41) and then just create ifo files for each with Ifoedit. This process has worked very well for me and it maintains dolby 5.1 and DTS sound. There will be no menus or anything so the movie will start playing right after it enters the player.
