OK, i've looked at the menu tutorial, and that's kind of what I want to do, but not quite. Here is what i'd like to make.

I have videos, mp3's, and still images from my favorite band (Tool) that I would like to put on a single disk, with a fairly nice menu to allow me to select which video, mp3, or image i'd like to see/hear. is this possible AT ALL with the vcd format? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes - It's possible but it will take a bit of work
You will need to convert the MP3 files into MPEG audio (not much change there though) and "pad" out the still images into either 352 x 240 or 704 x 480
TMPEGenc can do most of this.
VCD's use 352x240 for video playback but support 704x480 for still pictures, you can have either on one disc but it's better not to mix them together as the screen resize is noticable on most DVD players

You would probably need VCDEasy (Tools Page) or Videopack (don't where you would get it from though) with complex menu controls to allow for your layout

Also do yourself a favor and draw out the menu layout BEFORE you start
I would guess you would need a main menu with at least three menu tree's (even more if you mix different size images) with several sub tree and loops to take into account of the number of material you have and all this on one disc.
The other thing is to create it as a HTML page with an auto-loader (although you introduce more problems here with compatability)

I hope this helps a little bit.
It's an interesting challenge that one and I hope it works for you.
Drop me a line if you get it looking good - I like Tool

wow! thanks for the quick info! I will certainly be hanging out here a lot. I'll let you know how it works out. The plan is to take all the released Tool videos, maybe some bootleg clips as well, all of the album mp3's, and a selection of nice bootleg ones, along with some pics to round it all out. i'd like to be able to browse to each section, video/mp3/photos, and have the option to just play the entire playlist from each, in a loop. AND, if it's possible, i'd like to put together a little bit of a show, incorporating all 3 formats into a 1-2 hour show. Maybe scroll some interesting text info, while the mp3's are playing!? So many ideas if they are all possible. I have ~20 gigs of Tool related material, so there's lots to choose from.

i'll find those programs, and get started tonight after work.

2x100, 1x60, a burner and dvd drive. i've just got an ATA controller in there, raid0 is a bit too risky for me, since there is NO WAY i'm gonna get all the movies/isos/pr0n/tool all burned to CD. of that 260 gigs, there is about 30 gigs free at this point, across the 12 partitions. I run a little bit of an FTP site... Catch me on MSN, or even ICQ(9859017) if you'd like to check out the Tool content. I am still collecting it, this latest tour has produced SOOO much more Tool stuff, I can't keep up.
