    Hi,

I read that you can encode it - but no commercial DVD player will read it from a VCD or SVCD - so pretty pointless I guess.

Depending on your tv or av setup - you can get Dolby Digital Pro Logic - ie left, right, centre and mono rear channel which still sounds excellent...

    I hope this helps...

There is no way to get 5.1 signals in a vcd. Svcd supports whats called multichannel mpeg audio. It supports up to 7.1 channels and is literally as good as Dolby Digital in quality. As TeeRex suggested, the hardware support is extremely limited. You pretty much have to have a Philips dvd player and your decoder has to have support for multichannel mpeg audio and even if both of these apply, there is still no guarantee it will work.

Doug57 if you have a Dolby Pro Logic decoder than you should be getting more than just the front speakers. If your decoder only supports Dolby Surround then you have to do a dolby surround downmix before you encode. The conversion guides explain how to do this.
