I'm fairly new to SVCD authoring, but I've got the feel for it...

Problem, I'm converting a DV file to SVCD format with bbMPEG, it sets the max bitrate to something like 2.3Mbps SVCDs are supposed to be capable of 2.6Mbps (if I'm not mistaken) I burn with VCD Composer (a VCD imager GUI) and Cdrdao I put the SVCD in the DVD player, it works great until a certain section comes up and it gets jittery... (bad frame rate...)

so I lowered the bit rate a little, it helped some, finally I tried lowering the bit rate to 1.15Mbps, the VCD bit-rate and that worked, but the image looked pretty crappy...

is my player not technically capable of playing SVCDs? (I need to go find the model number) if so, then why is it playing SVCDs? can it think it's a VCD but then read the MPEG II format??? or am I just doing something horribly wrong?

  2. Try to encode with the opposite field order. May be that helps.

Some DVD-players have problems with a bitrate BELOW 1200.....

    I use: Max: 2300, Min: 1200, Avrg: 1800

Well first off you probably should switch to another encoder. Bbmpeg's quality is ok and if you don't mind the ridiculously slow encoding times than I suppose its a decent encoder but the fact is that hardly anyone uses it to encode svcds. Its possible your problems are common with bbmpeg, but nobody knows because nobody uses it.

I'd try just encoding that problem section in TMPGEnc and see if it works. Just switching to another encoder might solve your problems.

I agree that cce is faster and higher quality than TMPGenc, I only suggested the latter since its free like bbmpeg. glokebrothaman please read the forum rules before posting. Do not ask for nor offer warez.

I've tried using TMPGEnc, but it's not compatable with the type of DV file I'm working with, maybe there's a DV file converter? anyway, I did a little research (probably should have done this before I posted...) and apparently all Panasonic DVD players are incompatable with SVCDs.... so there you go...
