You can follow the dvd to vcd conversion guides, but use VirtualDub resp. Nandub as encoder. Well, you can use dvd2avi for simple conversions, but if you want to apply filters, you better frameserve with dvd2avi to a video editor. If you like to use a all-in-one tool, try GordianKnot, that is a frontend for dvd2avi, Avisynth, nandub etc.

  3. I did try DVD2AVI (v 1.74) I opened the VOB files then Save AVI, Fullframes uncompressed, but it was very very quick. When I checked
the AVI file, it's size is 0 Kb.

    Need help please....

Click "Save Project" rather than "Save AVI". This will save a .vdr file which will act as a frameserver to the AVI file.

TMPGEnc will accept the VDR file as an input as will VirtualDub if you convert it with the VFAPI converter first.

Follow the DVD2AVI part of Sefy's newbie guide (linked below) to try this out.

  5. Dave B,

Actually, I wanted to convert the VOB files to a file with .AVI extension.
Is this possible with DVD2AVI? What's the "Save AVI" for? I simply wanted the VOB files to be converted to *.AVI file then load it into EditStudio 3.1 and then convert it to Mpeg1 VCD using MpegXS plugin. I have tested the trial version of MpegXS and to my surprise it was very fast (it took 55 min to encode a 45 min movie) and the quality is (in my opinion) better than Tmpgenc.
